KINGSTON, JAMAICA: The Board of Directors of TransJamaican Highway Limited (TJH)
has approved a J$100 million donation to support victims of Hurricane Melissa.
TJH will provide building materials including zinc, lumber, hurricane straps, nails, and
similar items to more than 2,000 homeowners whose properties were damaged by the
storm.
“Our intention is to offer meaningful relief to persons whose homes were damaged by
Hurricane Melissa,” said Ivan Anderson, Managing Director of TJH. “We are
collaborating with one of the island’s largest hardware retailers to get the assistance
directly to the affected individuals in St. Elizabeth and other hard-hit parishes.”
TJH expects to finalize arrangements with government stakeholders shortly, with
distribution of the items targeted to take place within the next two to three weeks.
In addition to the corporate donation, the company’s employees have launched an
internal relief drive, contributing essential supplies such as non-perishable food,
water, clothing, toiletries, and baby items.
“Our team members have shown tremendous compassion and initiative.” Anderson
added. “Their personal contributions reflect the spirit of care and community that drives
our organization.”
TransJamaican Highway Limited is the developer and operator of TransJam Highways,
formerly known as Highway 2000 East-West.
